PTA Reflections

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the current year’s theme.

Variety Show

The annual student Variety Show features the many talents of Prairi’s students, from singing to dancing, musical performances, skits, comedy routines, and more! – there’s no limit to the level of creativity! The show is hosted by the 6th grade committee and always features a memorable 6th grade group performance.

6th Grade Leadership

Developed on the belief that students should be given the opportunity to have a more active role in their education, students collaborate with adult leaders on various committees to establish positive relationships within the community. Every 6th grade student participates in these activities.

Clubs and Organizations

Junior Master Gardeners

Open to students in 3rd-6th grades, Prairie has the oldest JMG chapter in Johnson County. Students experience hands-on gardening tasks along with educational programming. Activities are led by volunteer Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners. Meets in the Prairie Art room and weather permitting moves to the garden. Enrollment is limited to 25 students.

LEGO League Jr. -
1st-3rd Grades

Teams of students work together to solve a real world challenge. Students present a Show Me Poster and a LEGO Model at an area EXPO.

LEGO League -
4th-6th Grades

Students are given a problem to solve, and they must work in teams to research and develop a solution. Final competition is either in November or early December.

Chess Club

Open to 1st-6th graders, chess club is a great way to meet other students and get better at a classic game.  Students don’t have to know how to play chess to join. Meet 2x monthly in the library.

Math Club/Mathletics

Mathletics is a school-sponsored math club where 4th-6th graders practice higher mathematics equations and play math games after school in the library. Participants meet twice a month during the first semester, and then they compete with other SMSD schools beginning mid-semester. Top teams are invited to Regional and District Competitions during the second semester.

Girl Scouts

Open to K-6th graders, girl scouts is a fun way to develop leadership skills in your student through various activities throughout the year. Meets 1-2x monthly and is sponsored outside the PTA.

Scouts BSA

Open to K-6th grade boys and girls, scouts is a great way to meet new students and learn the basics of camping, community, leadership and outdoor skills. The Pack is chartered through Village Presbyterian Church. Meets 2-3x monthly and is sponsored outside the PTA.
