PTA Reflections

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the current year’s theme.

Variety Show

The annual student Variety Show features the many talents of Prairi’s students, from singing to dancing, musical performances, skits, comedy routines, and more! – there’s no limit to the level of creativity! The show is hosted by the 6th grade committee and always features a memorable 6th grade group performance.

6th Grade Leadership

Developed on the belief that students should be given the opportunity to have a more active role in their education, students collaborate with adult leaders on various committees to establish positive relationships within the community. 

 Prairie’s goal is to grade 6th graders that will become leaders, equipped with the tools and skill sets necessary to become productive members of the community. Therefore, every 6th grade student participates in these activities.

Clubs and Organizations

Junior Master Gardeners

Open to students in 4th-6th grades, this program is designed to grow children’s knowledge by igniting a passion for learning, success, and service through a unique gardening education. Led by a dedicated group of Kansas State Extension Service Master Gardeners, students experience hands-on gardening tasks along with education programming. Fun fact: Prairie has the oldest Junior Master Gardeners Chapter in Johnson County!

LEGO League Jr.

Lego League Jr. is open to 1st-3rd graders. Students learn programming and problem-solving skills to solve current world challenges in a team environment with parent coaches. At the end of the season, students present a Show Me poster and LEGO model at an area EXPO.

LEGO League

Lego League is open to 4th-6th graders and led by parent coaches. Students are given a problem to solve, and they must work in teams to research and develop a solution. Students then compete in an greater Kansas City area competition, with a chance to advance further. 

Chess Club

Open to students in all grades, chess club is a great way to meet other students, improve critical thinking skills, and get better at a classic game.  Chess Club meets once a week after school in the library. Students do not have to know how to play chess to join. 

Math Club/Mathletics

Mathletics is a school-sponsored math club where 4th-6th graders practice higher mathematics equations and play math games after school in the library. Participants meet twice a month during the first semester, and then they compete with other SMSD schools beginning mid-semester. Top teams are invited to Regional and District Competitions during the second semester.

Girl Scouts

Open to K-6th graders, Girl Scouts is a fun way to develop leadership skills in your student through various activities throughout the year. Meets 1-3x monthly and is sponsored outside the PTA.

Scouts BSA

Open to K-6th graders, Boy Scots is a great way to meet new students and learn the basics of camping, community, leadership and outdoor skills.  Meets 1-3x monthly and is sponsored outside the PTA.

Assemblies

Our PTA sponsors fun and educational assemblies for all grade levels throughout the school year.
