The Prairie Garden is a treasure, tucked into our school grounds. The garden is maintained by Prairie students, families and community volunteers.
The Junior Master Gardener program is an international youth gardening program of the university cooperative Extension network. JMG engages children in novel, “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment and cultivate the mind.
Prairie is home to the oldest JMG chapter in Johnson County, and we are fortunate to have a long tradition of garden learning.
JMG is open to students in the fourth through sixth grades, and enrollment is limited.
The Prairie Garden is maintained by Prairie Families who volunteer their time and talents to keep our outdoor learning garden in top shape.
Garden work days are announced via our weekly newsletter and in our private Facebook Group for Prairie parents and guardians. Click below to be added to a list of volunteers.
Thanks to PTA funding, the pond is maintained by a professional company that specializes in pond maintenance.
