How Does The Prairie Garden Grow?

Our garden is full of weeds, which need to be removed before we can amend the soil with the free compost from Missouri Organics (the company who takes our lunchroom compost-waste).  We are seeking volunteers to join Melissa Ragland and Andree DeBauge this Friday, March 30 at 1:00 to weed all the beds.  More hands make for faster work, so please join us.  It’s a no school day for the kiddos, so bring them along to help!!

The compost from Missouri Organics will be delivered on Friday.  Next week, the nutrient rich stuff will be added to our garden beds to feed our flowers and vegetables, making for a healthy and hearty garden!

The HiP club will be planting lettuce seeds in the Crop Bed on Tuesday, March 27th during the monthly meeting.

Also, thanks to a Koch Grant, written by Stacey Perkins Rock, we are seeking to install a drip irrigation system this Spring!  This way of watering our garden is not only better for our plants, it is good for our planet as it conserves water.  We are also adding guttering to our garden shed to harvest at least some water into a rain barrel!

Stay tuned for updates about when and what is being planted, how it is growing, what is blooming, and when crops are ready for harvest.
