Starting elementary school can be overwhelming. We know – we’ve been there! Rest assured, you’re in the right place. We have lots of resources to help you get familiar with Prairie and keep you in the loop on what’s going on.
First and foremost, to ensure you are included n PTA and room parent communication, be sure you register in the PTA Directory!
We want to make sure you have everything you need for a successful first day of elementary school!
- School begins at 8:10 – you can drop your student at his/her classroom at 8:00.
- The front entrance circle drive is closed to cars without prior authorization from 7:50 – 8:15 .
- You may park in front of the soccer field (excluding reserved spots), the Village Church parking lot, or the surrounding streets. There is a crosswalk on 67th and Delmar, 67th and Mission, and a bridge from 66th St. into the Prairie playground.
- Keep in mind that Mission Road is closed between Tomahawk and 67th St. for the Fall of 2023, including the entrance to the South parking lot at Village Church. This will mean extra traffic on 67th Street. Please use extra caution for walkers and bikers. We highly encourage walking where possible.
- Make sure you discuss where you will pick up your child at the end of the school day (front door, back door/bike rack, etc.) and let your teacher know the plans. Dismissal is at 3:10 pm.
Once your child is comfortable with the routine, you may choose to use the car line on the North side of the school for drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon. Take a look to see how this process works here.
Join us in the Garden for Coffee and Kleenex right after you drop your student off on the first day. Meet other kindergarten parents and some of the PTA over a cup of coffee – we’ll have plenty of tissues!
