Junior Master Gardeners

The Junior Master Gardener program is an international youth gardening program of the university cooperative Extension network. JMG engages children in novel, “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment and cultivate the mind.

Prairie is home to the oldest JMG chapter in Johnson County and we are fortunate to have a long tradition of garden learning. This year our activities are structured around the wildlife of the garden and we will explore many different topics.

JMG is open to students in the fourth through sixth grades, and enrollment is limited

Garden Work Days

The Prairie Garden is maintained by Prairie Families who volunteer their time and talents to keep our outdoor learning gardens in top shape. Please join us with your students on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15-4:00.

Project Prairie/Pond

Oversee the maintenance and promote usage of our outdoor plant and wildlife learning center.

Contact Dav Bettenhausen for additional information on the Prairie Garden and to sign your students up for any of the above.
